Test Driving Vista, Great Mac comercials
Tuesday, February 20th, 2007I have been testing Vista Business on a spare pc at work for about a week now. Over all I like it and plan to upgrade to it on my home pc. First I want to upgrade my hardware. My current rig will handle Vista fine but I have been wanting a Dual Core system since before they hit the retail market. Now prices are reasonable so once I sell my rig I’ll do the upgrade. I wouldn’t mind keeping my current system but I already have more computers than I need and this one will get me the best price.
One of the differences between Vista and XP is security. Vista comes much more “locked down” than XP. The first thing you will notice is the “nag box” that will pop up every time you want to perform an administrative task. Even if you are the system admin. This is a feature I have also seen in Linux (and it was annoying there also). XP was more trusting in that if you were logged in as admin it assumed you knew what you were doing and allowed you to perform your tasks unhindered. You have probably seen the very funny Mac commercial spoofing this feature:
That series of Mac commercials are some of the best I have seen for selling a computer to consumers. You can see the rest on YouTube if you have not already caught them on TV. As for the “annoying” feature, I found this article by Deb Shinder on TechRepublic.com showing how to turn this feature off.
